Trail Overview
This scenic traverse crosses the dramatic central highlands of Gran Canaria from the Cruz de Tejeda pass (1,450 m) west to Artenara (1,270 m) — the highest village in the Canary Islands. The route follows a pine-forested ridge with views into deep barrancos on both sides, passing viewpoints over the Tamadaba pine forest and Roque Bentayga. Artenara is famous for its cave houses, cave church and cave restaurant.
The trail requires transport organisation — take the GC-600 bus to Cruz de Tejeda and arrange a taxi return from Artenara, or do it in reverse. Cave restaurant Mesón La Silla in Artenara rewards trail-end hunger exceptionally well.
