Trail Overview
The Caldera de Bandama is a 1,000 m wide and 200 m deep volcanic explosion crater on the northeast edge of Gran Canaria. A steep path descends from the rim (568 m) to the caldera floor, where a single farmstead has operated for over a century. The crater walls are dense with native dragon trees, Canarian palms and laurel. A second trail ascends to the Pico de Bandama (574 m) viewpoint for panoramic views of the capital.
The descent path is loose and slippery — hiking poles and decent footwear required. The path is not circular; return by the same route. Dogs not permitted inside the caldera.
