My Mission
The Canary Islands are a paradise for photographers and hikers, but they are also home to a unique and sometimes challenging weather phenomenon: Calima.
My mission is simple: to demystify the local weather patterns. I believe that with the right data, you can turn a potential "bad weather day" into a safe adventure or a dramatic photography opportunity. I don't just report the weather; I interpret it for your specific needs.
Why I Built This
Every year, thousands of visitors arrive in Tenerife hoping for crystal clear views of Mount Teide, only to be met with a thick haze that obscures the landscape. This is Calima—suspended dust from the Sahara Desert.
Standard weather apps will tell you it's "Sunny" or "Cloudy," but they fail to capture the nuance of visibility, air quality, and how these factors affect:
- Photography: Is the sky clear enough for astrophotography? Will the sunset be colorful or dull?
- Health: Is the air quality safe for a strenuous hike?
- Safety: Are the winds at the summit too dangerous for the cable car?
CanaryConditions fills this gap by aggregating specialized data sources and applying local knowledge to give you the full picture.
Who I Am
I'm Alexander Harmon, a freelance developer from the US, now working as an autónomo in Spain. CanaryConditions is a project by Harmon's Creations, my freelance development business focused on building intelligent, data-driven web applications.
I combine my passion for the outdoors with my expertise in software engineering to build tools that solve real-world problems. This project serves as a live demonstration of my capabilities in API integration, data visualization, and performance optimization.
