Barranco de Guayadeque to Agüimes

The Barranco de Guayadeque is one of the most archaeologically rich canyons in Gran Canaria, with cave settlements occupied continuously since Guanche times. The trail follows the canyon floor from the upper restaurant area, passing cave churches, cave houses still inhabited today, and dense concentrations of endemic flora before descending to the coastal town of Agüimes. The canyon walls tower 250 metres above in places.

The best direction is top-down (upper restaurants to Agüimes) as the gradient is more comfortable. Take bus 11 or 36 back from Agüimes. Visit the Cueva Bermeja museum at the top before starting the walk.
